Being part of the University of Northern Iowa allows the IWRC to work with fantastic student interns. There are often multiple students working at the center from a variety of majors and backgrounds. One of the seniors who will be graduating and moving on from the IWRC next month is Jacob Weiss.

Jacob has been an IT intern at the IWRC for a year and a half and was recently nominated for the 2015 University of Northern Iowa (UNI) Student Employee of the Year Award by Diane Albertson, IT Specialist for the IWRC.

Diane stated, “From the very beginning, it was clear that Jacob was an unique student.” She believed he deserved to be recognized for his innovative contributions to the IWRC.

Nomination for UNI Student Employee of the Year AwardIn his tenure at the IWRC, Jacob has developed his technical skills and computer knowledge. “I also learned a lot of problem solving and communicating effectively through explaining solutions to the staff and training them,” he says. Jacob also provides advanced technology support, software updates, computer monitoring, as well as produces and presents helpful how-to technology writeups for IWRC staff.

Nominees and their supervisors were recognized at a special luncheon last week presented by the UNI Office of Career Services as part of National Student Employee Week. Forty nominees were recognized for their hard work, job dedication and willingness to go the extra mile. Jacob was evaluated over a wide range of categories including quality of work, uniqueness and innovative techniques.

Learning outside the classroom has been a part in Jacob’s personal success where he participated and learned about the IWRC and all of its services. Jacob also told me that “It was an honor to be nominated for the Student Employee of the Year award.”

Praised for his high achieving attitude and capabilities, Jacob received a well deserved nomination for his dedication to the IWRC. After he graduates next month, he will be working at PricewaterhouseCoopers in Des Moines. Congratulations to Jacob for his nomination and we wish him well on his future endeavors!
