Welcome to Postville, Iowa's page for the Iowa Rural Communities Food Waste Reduction Project!

The project, funded by the Rural Utilities Service of the United States Department of Agriculture, allowed the IWRC to provide community-level food waste reduction assistance to four Iowa rural communities from October 2016 to September 2017, one of those communities being Postville. The IWRC was able to work with two entities in the community - Postville Community School District and the Good Samaritan Society. At both locations, IWRC conducted food waste sorts to determine the current amount of food waste being generated. From there, IWRC worked with staff at each to provide recommendations and strategies to reduce and recover food waste. Read the full results of the case study by clicking below.
